Novice Coach Jess Scheer

Jess Scheer began rowing during her junior year on the club team at Cornell University. Her first-ever regatta was Head of the Fish in Saratoga, NY, where she raced both a women's quad and a mixed varsity 8+. She graduated with a BS in Biological Sciences in 2024 and came to Penn State in the fall of 2024 to pursue a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology. At Penn State, she joined the crew team during her first semester and loved the atmosphere of a true collegiate competitive rowing team. In fall of 2024, Jess rowed at the Head of the Charles in the WV4+ and in the spring of 2025, won gold at Commonwealth Sprints in the WV8+. In spring of 2026, Jess raced at ACRA in the B-finals for the WV4+.

Jess started coaching high schoolers with SCAR (State College Area Rowing) in summer of 2025. In fall of 2026, Jess accepted the position of Novice Coach with Penn State Crew to be able to continue to foster the next generation of the competitive spirit  that drew her to Penn State Crew. Her coaching style focuses on building strong foundations for excellence both on and off the water. She is looking forward to meeting the newest members of Penn State Crew !!
